Here's my travel log from yesterday. As nothing really major happened in the morning we will pick up from leaving on the train. Oh, and all times are in British time to avoid the confusion of the time difference.
08:55 - Leave Fribroug.
As previously mentioned, the double-decker trains in Switzerland have play areas at the far end. Catriona spent most of her time playing and seemed to have great fun. This was the fastest-feeling journey to Geneva, mainly because I was playing as well.
10:24 - Arrive at Geneva Airport.
We go off the train to and Catriona sat on the case while I pulled her along on it. We headed towards check in.
10:45 - Arrive in Geneva Airport's nursery.
We checked in at the automated EasyJet service and got the big case away. This left me with my stuff and Catriona's bag with her toys in it.
The nursery was good fun. We played, colored in and played some more. About half an hour before I wanted to leave Catriona decided she was bored and we left to look for something else to do.
11:45 - Friday the 13th strikes.
We find out the plane is delayed by forty minutes. Now, at this point Catriona is VERY tired so cue a frantic search for somewhere she could sit. We eventually found somewhere but she spent most of the time crying at how uncomfortable she was.
12:40 - Through security.
We eventually got the gate number and headed there. No real problems at security other than both myself and the security team not realizing that I still had my glasses on and that's what was setting the alarm off. Catriona happily sat on my knee and did some drawing while we sat in the departure lounge waiting on the plane.
13:15 - Our plane arrives.
Thank Crunchie. It won't until we are on it and in the air.
13:30 - We take our seats on the plane.
EasyJet do this thing called Speedy Boarding. For an extra £7 you can be one of the first people on the plane. I insisted when Lorna got the tickets to get this as it would make things with Catriona a lot easier.
Pretty much as soon as we were on the plane Catriona's tiredness really kicked in and she started bawling for the one thing I couldn't give her: Her Mum.
13:50 - Take Off!
As soon as the seatbelt light is off I remove Catriona's seatbelt and she falls asleep with her head resting on my leg. Ah, peace!
15:00 Still on the bloody plane.
Catriona is still asleep on my leg meaning I can't move. My book is in my bag in the overhead locker and one side of my arse is completely asleep. But fortunately I have my iPod in my pocket. I listen to the amazing Semisonic album Feeling Strangely Fine. Apt - I thought - as in just more than an hour I would be on the way home without Catriona. That sounds mean but I was bloody tired too!
15:45 - We land.
Catriona wakes up with the announcement that we're about to land. I tell her that we're flying over my house (true, the pilot informed us we were over Peebles) and this seemed to really cheer her up for some reason.
After this I didn't take any notes, so this is briefly what happened next.
We left the plane and headed through passport control were both Catriona and I got a real drilling. Since she isn't my daughter they needed me to confirm who I was and who Catriona was and Catriona had to confirm the same things. Fortunately Lorna had written me a letter saying that she knew who I was, as did Catriona and had given contact numbers if they wanted to get in touch. It was strangely comforting that they were doing this, but slightly tedious as well. And I really want a drink by this point.
We then got the bag from the conveyer belt, Catriona sat on it and we headed through into Arrivals. Her grandparents and my Mother were here and I have never been more happy to see them. She ran straight for her Granddad and then headed to the car park.
I put her stuff that was in my bag into their car, we said out goodbyes and headed off.
Mum and I stopped on the way home to give our dog a brief walk and I got back home at about 17:15.
It was a long day and I was glad to be home. Now I've got about two weeks of peace and quiet.
Bliss.
