I have decided to really quit smoking. And I mean for good. There are a number of reasons behind this, which I shall now list.
- My health. This one goes without saying.
- I'm fed up smelling like a cigarette factory.
- I don't like having to stand outside when I go to pubs, etc.
- This is a big one: People taking the moral bloody high ground.
I get lectured from various people in my life about how bad smoking is and what I'm doing to my health despite the fact they're verging on alcoholism themselves. People that happily smoke drugs tell me that smoking's bad and I'm sick of it. Some of my friends have flaws and I accept them for those flaws. I except the casual drug use and the dependency on alcohol, but when I say something along the lines of "I'm off out for some fresh air" and get dirty looks as I go and lectures when I get back. Once someone banged on at my about the dangers of smoking for half an hour. Half an hour! And the worst part was when they had finished I really wanted a fag.
That's not to say everyone I know is like that. The bulk of people that I know couldn't really care less, which is nice. They accepted my choice (and it was a choice) to smoke. So to those people: Thank you.
So that's that; no more smoking. The downside is that I'll be a grumpy sod for the next few weeks. Don't anyone let me buy cigarettes! Give me a sharp hit to the arm or face and drag me away. Unless I'm buying other stuff, then you let me finish the transaction and drag me away.
I just want to add that I know that the people who would bitch at me where just worried and trying to get me stop. I do appreciate the thought, just not the way they went about it.

Well, I applaud your decision, it's a tough one to make, and I trod that path many moons ago. More power to your will, and if it helps, I lttok up knitting to my hands occupied till I got over the initial couple of months.
That, of course should have read, "took up knitting to keep my hands occupied..." Sigh! the brain is faster than the fingers these days.....
