My first blog where Playboy gets a mention!

MSN.co.uk bothers me. I end up looking at their homepage each time I log out of Hotmail. They have these features that normally get their facts wrong; for example in “The top beards in cinema history” they had Sean Connery's beard from Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull listed. Sean Connery wasn’t in Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. I’m currently reading “The 40 movies you should have seen in 2008”, which is basically a list of blockbusters, with films like Teeth thrown in there for good measure. Anyway Charlie Wilson’s War, Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, Juno and There Will Be Blood were all released in 2007, not 2008.

I think that they get people to write stuff to stir up some controversy. A few years ago I remember a piece that said that The Beatles were not all they were cracked up to be and this caused about thirty pages of backlash. Two months later the same (anonymous) writer wrote about how much he hated Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, again followed up by thirty pages of backlash. Now, I'm all for individual opinions and freedom of speech but this guy didn’t write his thoughts very well, and I wasn't seeing his side of the argument. I wish now I’d saved it.

MSN aren't really on top of the news either. I can see headlines on there for news that I read the previous day. Clearly what MSN are trying to do is be a hard-hitting news/cultural affairs/sport/arts website, but they seem to be doing it really half-heartedly. Just looking at the current Entertainment headlines, which are “Scarlett won't pose for Playboy”, “Tom Cruise ‘loves being a dad’” and “Eoghan: Diana is the best” (I believe this on has something to do with The X Factor). My point is why is this news? I’m not going to pose for Playboy either, most fathers do enjoying being dads and I’m sure the person with the most votes won The X Factor. They are forgetting about the Star Wars musical at the O2 and that the Shrek musical had its second night last night.

Allow me to spoil “The 40 movies you should have seen in 2008” to save you reading through forty pages of the stuff; it’s No Country For Old Men. I'm sure it's a good film, haven't got around to seeing it yet, but one day I shall!
