Christmas in mid-November.

It's bang on the middle of November and it's officially Christmas. I was all own my own on Friday night (any sympathy greatly received) and there were so many adverts on saying that this is now available as a the perfect present or this sofa can be delivered before Christmas and all guff. Why can't Christmas start on the first of December? That's when all lights go on, mince pies and Mulled Wine goes on sale, all adverts come on and - most importantly - when it starts snowing. It would coincide with children (and me) opening the first door of their advent calendars. This, I think, would make Christmas wonderful. But it won't happen, companies like to shove Christmas at you for as long as they can.

I don't want to come across as some sort of Scrooge figure, but as you get older Christmas just isn't as exciting. I didn't think I would ever believe it but I do now. Funny story, last year on Christmas Eve try as I might I just could not feel festive. The tree was looking great the house was full of the smell of mulled wine but I just couldn't feel like it was Christmas the next day. And then I went next door to drop off some presents to my next-door neighbours. Half an hour in the company of three primary-school-aged girls and a then two month old boy made me feel like it really was Christmas. It was great and I'll be doing the same this year!

So, what to do between now and Christmas? Well, the living room is in the midst of a complete transformation. I've got a shed loads of DVDs to make, and then I've got to work out what to get people for Christmas. But I've got a month and a half, so it's all good!

Right, got to go and lift a carpet.

I heartily concur! I love the build up to Christmas but hate that it seems to start in September!! 1st December is truly early enough or if you want to be pedantic, the first Sunday of Advent. As to the kiddy connection - absolutely! Nothing like excited kiddly-winks on Christmas Eve to get you in the mood!
