A few months ago I read an interesting interview with a drummer named Simon Phillips about an album he recorded. He recorded the album at half speed and it was then sped up by 100% to match the tempos of the songs. I remember thinking this was an interesting idea and I would need to try something similar. I then forgot about it.
Fast forward to last night and this thought popped into my head as things often do. I thought I would give it a bash but film it at the same time. The end result is the following video. The first part is what I played completely unedited; the second part is exactly the same but double the speed.
I'm not going to sit here and say that I'm the best drummer in the world; the playing is sloppy and the triplet fill doesn't really translate very well at double speed. But it's just an experiment. I may experiment a bit more with this idea, but maybe just keep the results to myself.
The other thing is that I can't guarantee how long this will be on the net, as I don't really like the idea of a video of me on YouTube. People can be very brutal on there.
And yes, it's a Doctor Who advent calendar in the background. What of it?
