Crossing the Rösti Ditch, JAKIE CHAN STYLE!

As I mentioned yesterday today is Swiss National Day and what I great day we’ve had. We loaded the bikes on the car, met up with Cath, Markus and Marius and hit the road. The plan was that we would drive to three kilometres away from the farm where the brunch was being held and Lorna, Catriona and I would cycle while Leslie, Cath, Markus and Marius would walk. We were assured that the cycle would be ‘pretty flat and easy’.

As is often the way with these things, it wasn’t. It was all bloody uphill.

After a while I scooted ahead to try and find the place, but couldn’t so it was decided to fetch the cars and drive up. Good thing we did as it got nothing but steeper. It turned out being a lot more than three kilometres too.

In the end we got up there, paid our money and got in. You could sit outside or in, with Lorna and Catriona sitting inside (Catriona was cold, it was nippy though) and the rest of us sat outside; we were at the top of a big hill so the view was nice, although it did mist over later.
The food on offer was great. Organic cheese made at the farm we were at, fried eggs, bread, jams and marmalade, muesli mixed with lovely double cream, fruit, teas and coffees and Rösti.
Rösti is a potato dish, a bit like has browns; grated potato fried in a big pan. Very simple and cheap meal to make for any students out there. The thing about Rösti is that many French-speaking Swiss don’t like it so there is this so-called “Rösti Ditch” or “Rösti Border” which is the name for the long standing argument between the Swiss-Germans that like it and the Swiss-French that don’t. That said, many Swiss-French eat it, so I don’t really see any problem.

After we left there we headed back to Fribourg; Lorna Leslie and Catriona in one car and the other three and me in the second. We had a very interesting discussion regarding flags (that reminds me, I must look into when the Lion Rampant is flown). When we got to Fribourg we headed to the old town and went to a lovely little café/bar/theatre thing on the banks of the river. It was really good stuff with everything we had made locally in Fribourg. Ice Teas were had by most everybody, with the exception of the two borderline alcoholics in the group (me and someone else)| who had beers, which again were locally made.

Then we headed home.

I’m not sure if there will be much in the way of visable fireworks tonight as it’s a very cloudy and will probably rain. Besides, I’m feeling a little a bit tired now, so I’ll be much tired later.

Finally, I think I have reached the end of my "JAKIE CHAN STYLE!" trilogy. If I were to write a forth it probably wouldn’t be any good. Just look at Die Hard 4 and Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I here Guitar Hero calling...
